Buttermilk Fried Jumbo Coturnix Quail

Perfect for: Crispy, Southern-style comfort food.

Ingredients:

  • 4 jumbo Coturnix quail (split or halved)
  • 2 cups buttermilk
  • 1 tsp hot sauce (optional)
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper
  • Vegetable oil (for frying)

Instructions:

  1. Marinate quail in buttermilk + hot sauce (optional) for 4–8 hours in the fridge.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix flour, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  3. Heat oil to 350°F (175°C) in a deep skillet or fryer.
  4. Dredge marinated quail in seasoned flour.
  5. Fry for about 4–5 minutes per side or until golden and cooked through.
  6. Drain on a wire rack or paper towels. Serve with hot honey or slaw.
